MQM-London leaders sent to Karachi Jail after detention

Islamabad [Pakistan]: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) London group’s arrested leaders – Hassan Zafar, Kanwar Khalid Younis and Amjadullah Khan – on Sunday were sent to the Karachi Central Jail for 30 days.

The three key leaders of the party’s pro-Altaf Hussain faction of were taken into custody by the paramilitary Rangers from outside the Karachi Press Club (KPC) on Saturday and wer detained under Maintenance of Public Order (MPO), reports the Express Tribune.

MQM-London’s Interim Rabita Committee convener Professor Arif and member Khalid Yunus gathered at the KPC, along with their supporters, to address a news conference where lawyers and social activists were expected to join the party.

The conference, however, could not take place as both the leaders were whisked away by the Rangers.

Another member, Amjudullah, was taken into custody after he remained confined for four hours in the press club.

The MQM-London leader Wasay Jalil tweeted that the Rangers also raided the Rabita Committee member Sathi Ishaq’s house and arrested his 13-year-old son and 16-year-old daughter. The paramilitary force also raided another member Ashraf Noor’s house and arrested his brother, he claimed.

MQM-London convener Nadeem Nusrat demanded that the leaders be released immediately. (ANI)
