Mumbai Police arrests man accused of raping minor, mute girl

Mumbai : The Mumbai Police on Sunday arrested a 20-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh’s Pharenda, in case of rape of a minor girl, who is deaf and mute since her birth.

The girl, 14-year-old was found four and half months pregnant on December 6, 2016 when she complained about stomach ache.

A case of rape was registered in Boriwali Police Station but it was difficult to find out the culprit, as the girl was unable to give description of the accused.

The police then took help of various NGOs and experts who can communicate with deaf and mute people.

With this, the police were able to establish that the culprit was a laborer on some construction site near the victim’s house.

After a lot of effort the police was able to make a list of suspects and finally zeroed on the accused, who fled to his home town after committing the crime.

A team of Mumbai Police was sent to Pharenda which brought him to Mumbai and where he was arrested on July 7, almost a year after committing the crime. (ANI)
