Muslim teen assaulted by Bajrang Dal goons, tension in Raisen town of MP

Bhopal: A 15-year-old Muslim teen was allegedly assaulted by a group of Bajrang Dal activists after he was seen with a Dalit girl at the bus stand.

The incident took place in Raisen’s Salamatpur in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday.

The Bajrang Dal activists beat up the teenager unconscious accusing him of trying to elope with a Dalit girl. However, the teen denied the charge and said that he was merely speaking to her at the bus stand where he was assaulted.

According to witnesses, the attackers continued to assault him in the presence of policemen and eventually took him to a police station in an unconscious state.

Police booked the teen under sections for sexual assault and Dalit atrocities and sent the boy to a juvenile reform centre in Bhopal before booking any of his assailants.

“We’ve lodged a case of assault, obscenity, criminal intimidation and crime with common intent against three Bajrang Dal activists, including Gopal Rathore, Anup Agrawal and Sanjiv Shejwar. We’re making attempts to track them down,” Salamatpur police station in-charge MP Yadav told Hindustan Times.

Following the teenager’s detention, there was communal tension in Salamatpur area prompting the police to deploy in strength.
