Municipal Administration Minister K. Tarakarama Rao on Saturday said that the State Government would provide reservation to Muslims in Telangana State on the basis of their socio-economic backwardness.
Speaking to media persons in Assembly premises, KTR ridiculed the protest by BJP and said that the State Government was not proposing reservation on the basis of religion. He said nearly 90% of State’s population was backward and they include Muslims who constitute over 13% of the total population. He said when the reservation percentage in some States like Tamil Nadu could touch 69%, then why other States could not increase the quotas for various castes.
KTR alleged that the BJP was opposing Muslim reservation only for political gains. (INN)
