Muzaffarnagar riot victims attacked in native village

Muzaffarnagar: Five victims of the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots were beaten up allegedly by some residents of their native village when they went there for some work.

The incident took place yesterday when the victims, who have been rehabilitated in Palda village here, had gone to their native Kutba village to collect some materials, police said today.

The victims have been identified as Sharif, his wife Asgari, son Mursaleem, grand sons – Shokin and Sonu.

A police complaint has been lodged against six persons – Nitu, Jitender, Dallu, Rajender, Narender and Kala – in this connection, police said.

Meanwhile, angry over the incident, hundreds of locals protested and blocked roads at Shahpur town. They also demanded arrest of the accused villagers.

Over 60 persons were killed and more than 40,000 displaced in communal violence in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining areas in September 2013.
