Muzaffarnagar riots: BJP MLA Suresh Rana accuses SP of defending Azam Khan

New Delhi, Sept 25 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Suresh Rana, who was earlier named as key accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots by the local police, on Thursday alleged that the ruling dispensation was involved in defending its cabinet minister Azam Khan after the new report on the riots indicated the involvement of BJP leaders.

“Everybody knows that the U.P Government is desperately trying to save its cabinet minister Azam Khan, who was involved in the Muzaffarnagar riots. I am not able to understand. Despite being the MLA of the region I haven’t received any notice and I haven’t been allowed to present my point in front of the commission,” he added.

Rana further said that though this report was to be made public, he was unaware of the grounds on which Justice Sahay commission had submitted its report.

“The Samajwadi Party (SP) had earlier also framed us as guilty but the judiciary acquitted us as no proves were found against us,” he added.

The 775-page report on the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots of Justice Vishnu Sahay Commission blamed the BJP and the ruling Samajwadi Party for the violence in Muzaffarnagar.

Justice Sahay was appointed by the Samajwadi Party Government to look into the reasons behind the riots that left over 63 dead and rendered over 55,000 homeless. (ANI)
