Naidu asks officials to prevent human, property loss during Vardah cyclone

A P Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu directed the officials to initiate measures to prevent human and property loss during Vardah cyclone. He said steps should be taken to protect the standing crops and prevent fishermen from venturing into sea.

Addressing a tele conference with officials on Saturday, the CM said officials should be ready to restore power supply and transport  by removing the trees on roads in case of cyclone. He said the drains should be desilted to prevent inundation of fields and rain harvesting measures to be taken up to improve ground water.

             

 The officials informed the Chief Minister Nellore, Chitoor, Kadapa and Anantapuram districts are likely to received heavy rain from December 12 and the cyclone is likely to cross the coast near Sriharikota in Nellore district during midnight on December 12.

The officials said that the coastal region may witness heavy winds with a velocity of 100 km and 20 cm of rain fall during the period.

The Chief Minister asked the officials to gauge the rain fall using 1876 rain gauges. He said officials should record the water available in farm ponds at present.  He stressed the need for adopting better practices to prevent human and property loss during cyclones. (NSS)
