Naidu keen on electrification of four lakh households by June

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was keen on completing the household electrification for the remaining four lakh households in the State by the end of June this year, to achieve the rare distinction of being the first and pioneer State in India to complete even 100% Household electrification.
The State has achieved No.1 position in India in implementation of various projects in Generation, Transmission & Distribution apart from Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy measures. Ajay Jain, Energy Secretary, held a teleconference with some 1350 field-level officers of the State power utilities in the State. He said for the first time, AP attained a power surplus situation and is able to meet around 150 Million Units (MU) per day of Grid Demand.
Even though the Demand is expected to be raised to around 165 MU/Day in the forth coming summer, the utilities are in a comfortable position to meet the same. As per the directive of the CM, the DISCOMs should assess the non-electrified households in the State and complete electrification on war footing basis by June 2016. DISCOMs have to monitor the power supply situation based on the global parameters such as System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI) and System Average Interruption Duration index (SAIDI) from now onwards on a regular basis, and try reduce the losses to a single digit figure by the end of this financial year from the present level of 10.39%, as per the directive of the CM, said Ajay Jain.
Further, the Central Govt upon the request of the CM has sanctioned additional number of Solar Pumpsets to the extent of 10,000 to the already sanctioned quantum of 6,725. Govt. of India is going to extend a subsidy of Rs 1,50,000 per pumpset and the farmer has to bear 11% of the project cost of Rs 5 lakh for a 5 HP pumpset. So far about 3,000 pumpsets have been installed by the DISCOMs in association with the NREDCAP and farmers are requested to avail this facility . In the energy efficiency pumpset scheme wherein existing old pumpset of the farmer is being replaced with an Energy Efficient pumpset at free of cost to the farmer, the Govt. has decided to upscale the project by installing one lakh pumpsets. The Govt. is also decided to clear all pending connections for Agriculture services to the extent 93,000. So far in this year 62,000 connections have been given against a target of 50,000 by the DISCOMs.
The Energy Secretary directed the CMDs of DISCOMs to initiate a process of certification at the section level to be issued by the AE, after completion of 100% household electrification in his jurisdiction and copy of such certificates duly counter signed by the higher authorities are to be sent to the Govt. for further follow up.
