Nashik Cyclist Foundation chief Virdi dies while cycling

Nashik: Chairman of Nashik Cyclists Foundation, Jaspal Singh Virdi, died of a heart attack near Pathardi village on Mumbai-Agra national highway here this morning, while he was cycling.

He was 38.

“Virdi, who was cycling on the highway, felt uneasy and collapsed on the ground following a massive heart attack. near Pathardi village. He was immediately taken to a private hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead,” sources from the Nashik Cyclists Foundation said.

After the post-mortem, which was conducted at Nashik Civil Hospital, his body was taken to his residence in Satpur locality in Nashik. As per Virdi’s wish, his eyes were donated, sources said.

After taking over as the chairman of the foundation, Virdi had undertaken several initiatives to popularise cycling. Last week, the foundation had organised Nashik-Pandharpur cycle ride, in which Virdi himself had participated.

The last rites will be performed in Nashik tomorrow.

He is survived his wife and two sons.
