Nawaz Sharif, army chief discuss national security issues

Islamabad: Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday and discussed issues pertaining to national security, a statement from the PM House said.

Separately, General Bajwa met President Mamnoon Hussain who felicitated him on assuming the command of the Pakistan Army.

On Friday, the new army chief said that every ceasefire violation long the Line of Control will be responded to with “full force” and in an effective manner.

“Each violation of any kind must be responded to with full force in the most effective manner,” he said during a day-long visit to the 10 Corps Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

Gen Bajwa said that India’s “aggressive posture” solely aimed to divert the world’s attention from the “atrocities” being committed by their troops in Jammu and Kashmir.

He stressed that the core issue of Kashmir will have to be resolved between the two countries, in line with UN resolutions and aspirations of the people of the valley, for lasting peace in the region.
