New hospital, old beds – 200 patients from Osmania Hospital shifting to Maternity Hospital

Hyderabad: Arrangements are being made to shift 200 patients and some doctors of Osmania General Hospital to the newly constructed building of Govt. Maternity Hospital, Petlabruj but the beds and cots will be old. These arrangements are being made due to the dilapidated condition of Osmania General Hospital building.

It may be mentioned that in 1910, the then ruler of Hyderabad State, Nawab Meer Osman Ali Khan had constructed Osmania General Hospital Building.

It was started with 700 patients but now it contains 1168 beds. The ceiling of the building is getting dilapidated day-by-day.

CM of Telangana State, Mr. KCR visited the hospital earlier and opined that in place of the old building, new hospital building would be constructed but due to the opposition by archivists, opposition parties and historians, this plan was withdrawn. It was suggested that new hospital building would be constructed on the vacant land available adjacent to hospital. Rs. 200 crore has been allocated for this purpose, out of which Rs. 50 crore has already been released.

Due to the recent rains, third and four floors of the hospital buildings are leaking.

In view of this, alternate arrangements have been made on the 4th and 5th floors of Govt. Maternity Hospital by spending Rs. 6 crore but criticism is being leveled against providing old beds and cots.

It is proposed to lay the foundation stone of the proposed new hospital building which will contain G+7 floors. The design of the building has also been prepared and it is proposed to invite global tenders.
