NIA turns Namo Investigation Agency: AICC

AICC spokespersons Anand Sharma and RPN Singh, in a statement here stated, “Impartial justice system as also conscience of the Nation has been stunned by the blatantly partisan misuse of National Investigation Agency (NIA) for getting clean chits to ABVP leader Sadhvi Pragya and five others in the 2008 Malegaon Blast case by Union BJP government. NIA has now become ‘Namo Investigation Agency‘ being misused for the sole purpose of giving ‘clean chits’ to people affiliated to RSS-BJP by hook or crook. Justice is being sacrificed at the altar of jaundiced colour of political bias decimating the credibility of an outstanding organization like NIA in the process.

They stated that Malegaon blast was investigated by Mumbai ATS headed by late Hemant Karkare, which proceeded to file a 5,000-page charge-sheet on January 20, 2009 with plausible evidence against 11 persons, including Sadhvi Pragya. BJP government and NIA have once again seek to soil the memory and question the integrity of late Hemant Karkare by describing a first class thorough investigation held by him and his team as ‘dubious and untrustworthy’.

The entire charge-sheet of NIA appears to be aimed at decimating and demolishing the meticulous investigation by Mumbai ATS headed by late Karkare. NIA decided to drop MACOCA charges against all accused, so that all the statements recorded by late Hemant Karkare and team under MACOCA before a DCP-level officer become inadmissible in evidence, once the MACOCA charges are withdrawn. In its zeal to give a clean chit to accused, NIA charge-sheet has gone to the extent of branding Mumbai ATS team of late Hemant Karkare as having falsely planted RDX. To claim the earlier investigation by Mumbai ATS headed by late Shri Hemant Karkare as ‘dubious’, ‘suspect’ and ‘unreliable’ is to cruelly question the honesty, uprightness and probity of late Hemant Karkare posthumously.

Justice was being denied on account of multiple interventions. “We urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to uphold the constitutional oath and order a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into this sudden reversal of stance that has led to exoneration of six accused, including Sadhvi Pragya in 2008 Malegaon Blast case, besides completely diluting the case against remaining accused on account of withdrawal of charges under MACOCA and other offences,” they added.
