No digging of roads from tomorrow: Commissioner

GHMC Commissioner Dr B. Janardhan Reddy has directed all the officials of GHMC and other heads of the departments that no digging will be allowed after May 31 and whatever the works have been taken so far all the works to be restored by May 31. With regard to works pertaining to Water Works, it shall be restored by June 10. The HMWS&SB has taken up 1164 km of digging out of which 864 km have been restored.

 

The Commissioner has clarified that if any department wants permission for digging in case of emergency, they may obtain necessary permission from the government. He also held a detailed review meeting on maintenance of the engineering works with Chief Engineer (M), Zonal Commissioners, SEs, EEs and HMWS&SB officials held at GHMC Head office today.

 

The Commissioner instructed the engineering officials of the GHMC that no permission for digging shall be given after May 31 unless in case of emergency works of HMWS&SB and other major government departments. In case of such permissions given, the executive Engineers concerned must personally monitor and works may be restored under personal supervision immediately that too on priority. The Commissioner interacted with the engineering officials with restoration works, desiltation, monsoon preparedness, forming of emergency teams and action plan to tackle the emergency situation.

 

The Commissioner said the engineering officials must display boards at the site of the works which are being taken up duly furnishing the detailed information of the works sanction time frame, phone numbers of the contractors and as well as the officials concerned for the convenience of the citizens to have a clarity on the works which are being taken up.       The Commissioner had an interaction with the representatives of various agencies like Airtel, L&T, Bhagyanagar gas and so on and enquired about restoration of works and directed them to complete all the restoration works on priority by May 31 for which he has directed the concerned Executive Engineers to coordinate and to complete the works on priority.

 

The Commissioner also stated that the GHMC has identified 222 vulnerable stagnation points out of which 40 to 42 places have been identified and created additional capacity of the drain to drain out the stagnated water at once for smooth flow of traffic. The water stagnation is also there without rains because of lack of responsibility on the part of the people, who release water on the main roads obstructing the free flow of traffic and damaging the road.

 

In this connection, the Commissioner directed the Deputy Commissioners, along with line departments must identify the people, who are damaging the roads and releasing water on main roads duly penalizing them for irregularities being done for manmade stagnation. The discomfort of the people can be reduced to identify for the stretch of 100 meters one informant be deployed, who are adjacent to the stagnation points duly giving them the mobile numbers of the concerned contractor and officials concerned to inform about the stagnation and so on.
