No home for Mumbai police commissioner

Mumbai:Its been saying that in the history of the Mumbai police commissionaire, for the first time, a police commissioner has been living in an Officer’s Mess for over a month. The Mumbai Police Commissioner usually lives in government housing in South Mumbai, close to the police headquarters, but Dattaray Padsalgikar, commissioner of police, because of a lack of available accommodations for a senior officer, has been living in the Indian Police Service Officer’s Mess at Worli . Padsalgikar has been living in a room on the first floor of the mess ever since he arrived in Delhi.

He said, “this isn’t the first time that a senior officer of the rank of additional director general of the police is staying in the officer’s mess. But it’s rare for the police chief to remain in the mess for over a month while looking for a house.”
Former IPS officer YP Singh said that the Mumbai Police Commissioner needs to have some permanent accommodation. “This is standard practice for all police districts. It helps the police chief to work out of his own home and is vital in times of crisis as he can easily mobilise resources.”
