No impact of Maoists bandh call in Telangana

Hyderabad: The one-day bandh call given by the banned CPI (Maoist) in protest against the recent incidents of “exchange of fire” in Andhra-Odisha border (AOB) region had no impact in the left-wing extremism affected districts of Telangana, even as the police beefed up security.

“So far there is no news of any (untoward) incident. There was no impact (of the bandh call),” Telangana Additional DGP (Law and Order) Anjani Kumar told PTI.

He said all necessary precautionary measures were in place and police in districts were asked to remain alert.

Another senior police officer said security was scaled up in Khammam, Karimnagar, Adilabad and Warangal districts, while searches were conducted at bus stands and vehicles were checked.

In view of the bandh call, a meeting was organised yesterday wherein it was discussed with Commissioners, SPs and other senior police officers on the precautionary measures to be taken and they were asked to remain alert.

The Maoists had called for a bandh in five LWE-affected states including Telangana, to protest against the “encounters” last month in AOB in which two dozen Maoists were killed.
