I am not a Muslim, why should I face Gundagardi of Azaan? Sonu Nigam

“God bless everyone. I’m not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India,” Sonu Nigam tweeted.

NEW DELHI:  Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam on Monday morning triggered controversy by raising an insensitive question on the use of loudspeakers for ‘Azaan’.

The popular singer terming it a forced religiousness, wrote,”God bless everyone. I’m not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India.”

The 43-year-old singer didn’t stop there. He further wrote, “And by the way Mohammed did not have electricity when he made Islam.. Why do I have to have this cacophony after Edison?”

Justifying his tweet, he said, “I don’t believe in any temple or gurudwara using electricity To wake up people who don’t follow the religion . Why then..? Honest? True? Gundagardi hai bus (This is only hooliganism),” the Bollywood singer further tweeted.

Nigam’s tweet angered several of his fans and the singer receive flak from the Twitterati for his outrageous comments against Muslim community.
