Oatsmeal killing you? Quaker sued for using weed killer

New York: Had a bowl of Quaker’s oatmeal this morning? Well this porridge could be KILLING you.

The ubiquitous Quaker Oats is being sued for $5million because the company uses a chemical called glyphosate, a dangerous weed killer during its processing.

According to DailyMail, Lewis Daly from Brooklyn has filed a lawsuit against the owner of Quaker Oats saying that the company uses the dangerous herbicide.

Owned by PepsiCo, Quaker markets the oatmeal as “100% Natural” but that’s “false, deceptive and misleading, accuses the lawsuit.”

The chemical is a widely used as herbicide. Last year, the World Health Organization classified glyphosate as ‘probably carcinogenic to humans.’

Lewis in his Brooklyn federal court lawsuit claimed that the chemical is used in growing the oat and ‘is sprayed on the oats as a drying agent shortly before harvest.’

Glyphosate and its analogs are known endocrine disrupters (interfere with the hormonal system) cause’s number of cancers including breast, kidney, liver, thyroid, pancreas, bladder and myeloid leukaemia, birth defects in humans.
