Obama plans to send 250 more US troops to Syria

Washington : United States President Barack Obama is likely to announce plans to send 250 additional American troops to Syria to counter Islamic State militants more aggressively.

The announcement is likely to be made on Monday from Hanover, where President Obama is on an official farewell visit before he demits office in November this year.

The Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, controls the cities of Mosul in Iraq and Raqqa in Syria and is proving a potent threat abroad, claiming credit for major attacks in Paris in November and Brussels in March. (ANI)
