UP Molestation Row: 3 arrested, 11 others booked

Uttar Pradesh: The gruesome video of two girls being sexually assaulted by 14 boys in Rampur that went viral, UP Police this Sunday has arrested one youth and booked 13 other culprits, turns out all were Muslims.

FIR was lodged at the Tanda police station under sections 354A(sexual harassment) and 354B (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe) of the Indian Penal Code against the culprits after the video went viral.

Police have also invoked section 66 in the FIR filed against the culprits.

Hunt for others

UP Police is on the hunt for these as well as other culprits, it has formed four search teams the police official said.

Vipin Tada, Superintendent of Police Rampur said police is searching for these two girls who were seen molested and abused in the video as they have so far not lodged any complaint against these offenders.

“Once we show them the video, they can help us identify and nab the other culprits as well,” Mr. Tada told The Hindu.

As can be seen in the video, some youths are blocking the way of these two girls, while the two girls pleading to let them go. The offenders are seen harassing, lifting the girls, abusing them.
The Samajwadi Party said law and order situation has collapsed under the current CM Yogi’s rule has also criticized the BJP government for lawlessness in the state and for failing to control such incidents against women.

“Criminals are fearless and the police administration helpless,” said Rajendra Chaudhary, Samajwadi Party spokesperson.

Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav has instructed its district officer-bearers on Monday to submit reports at the district collectorate seeking Governor Ram Naik’s intervention, The Hindu reported.
