One-day 25 lakh mega plantation drive by HMDA

In view of the taking up of one-day 25-lakh Mega Plantation Drive initiated by Minister for MA&UD K.T. Rama Rao, the HMDA Metropolitan Commissioner has called for a meeting with layout developers on Monday at Tarnaka.

Some 50 layout developers attended the meeting. Speaking on the occasion, HMDA Metropolitan Commissioner T. Chiranjeevulu, IAS, said the HMDA will be raising 300 lakh plants for plantation and distribution to agencies for taking up plantation during 2016. He also stated that the HMDA has set a target of planting two lakh seedlings on the event of one-day 25 lakh Mega Plantation Drive on the date which is tentatively fixed as July 11.

During the meeting a power point presentation has been made to all the developers regarding the plantation program with special emphasis on how the value addition is made to the layouts with greenery. The HMDA Metropolitan Commissioner , HMDA has asked all the developers to take part in the mega plantation drive and take up plantations in their respective layouts.

The pitting, transportation of seedlings, aftercare such as protection and watering the plants is to be done by the developers, whereas one meter high seedlings will be supplied to the developers by HMDA free of cost. Nurseries will be tied up from the nearest locations based on the requirement of the layout developers. The developers were asked to keep pits ready for planting by July 1. He also asked them to upload the photographs of their layouts before and after taking up the plantation and update them periodically in the HMDA website. The Planning department has also been requested to intimate and involve maximum number of people in the mega plantation drive. (NSS)
