Oscar-winning “The Salesman” at upcoming film fest

New Delhi: Oscar-winning Iranian film “The Salesman” will be screened at the first edition of Habitat International Film Festival (HIFF) here that seeks to screen the best of world cinema more accessible.

Directed by Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, the film that won the Oscar this year in the ‘Best Foreign-Language Film’ category, will open the festival that will feature an impressive line up of documentary films like “Driving With Selvi”, “White Sun”, “A Heavy Heart” and “White Blessing” among others.

Set to begin from March 24 at Indian Habitat centre here, the 10-day event host free screenings of over 50 critically acclaimed films from across the globe.

Having collaborated with several Embassies and film directors, the initiative also seeks to promote a global dialogue through the medium of films.

“With the launch of this festival, we seek to fill the vacuum felt by film enthusiasts in the Capital and provide them with tasteful movie choices.

“Through this free-for-all platform, we aim to promote the thought of global dialogue via the channel of movies. We are happy to have several Embassies entrusting us with our unique initiative,” says Rakesh Kacker, Director of India Habitat Centre.

“76 Minutes and 15 seconds with Abbas Kiarostami”, a documentary tribute to the influential Iranian filmmaker will be also featured at the festival.

The festival, that will come to an end on April 2, will also showcase movies from countries like Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan and Hungary.
