OU campus tense with arrest of students

Osmania University students and police reportedly clashed when the latter tried to stop them from participating in the ‘Chalo Assembly’ rally near the NCC gate on the campus.

According to the information, the police entered the OU campus without Vice-Chancellor’s permission and allegedly raided the Lecturers’ Quarters and students’ hostels. Following the Left parties’ call for Chalo Assembly on Wednesday, the OU students, led by PDSU leader Satya, organized a rally from the Ladies’ Hostel, but they were taken into custody by the police at the NCC Gate as usual. Similarly, the police arrested some students, who were staging a dharna at the Arts College. The police personnel went on rounding up students wherever they were sighted.

Reacting to the police action, the OU students said the police never entered the campus during the Telangana agitation, but they have done so on Wednesday and rounded up students at several places on the OU campus. They said the students would definitely put an end to the dictatorial functioning of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao soon because in the separate State, the students who laid down their lives for the cause were being indiscriminately arrested and killed in fake encounters. (NSS)
