The Osmania University Library, in association with ICSSR-SRC, organized 70th United Nations Foundation Day celebrations at OU Library on Friday.
Prof. E. Suresh Kumar, OU Registrar, who was the chief guest, inaugurated a Book Exhibition and exhorted students to utilize UN documents which are available in the OU Library.
Dr R.K. Pavan Kumar, Asst. Professor & Convener, UN Day Celebrations, OU University Library and Dr S. Yadagiri, University Librarian, OU explained about UNO and its activities and highlighted about the International year of Soils-2015. A DVD developed by P. Ramesh and Dr A.S. Chakravarthy containing the software of D-Space and Joomla was released on the occasion which is helpful to digitalize the Libraries.
Prof. A. Balakishan, Dept. of Geography, UGC, Center for Indian Ocean Studies, OU, delivered a talk on International year of Soils, the theme of this year-2015, announced by UNO. He explained about Soil, its importance, steps to protect and challenges involved. He advocated certain steps like creation of awareness among the people to protect the soil.
Prof. V. Vishwa Mohan, Head & Chairman, Dept. of Library and Information Science, OU, who presided over the lecture program, also spoke about the importance of International year of Soils-2015. (NSS)
