OU students approach SHRC alleging torture by jail authorities

A few students of Osmania University on Friday lodged a complaint with the State Human Rights Commission (HRC) alleging that they were beaten up by Deputy Superintendent of Chanchalguda Jail Santosh Roy during their judicial remand in a case of attack on Principal of OU Science College.

Accusing the jail authorities of ‘high handedness’, NSUI leader K Manavatha Rao alleged that he and seven other students were brutally beaten by the student with fibre batons by Santosh Roy, who also used abusive language against them. As a result he suffered contusion over right shoulder, thigh and ankle and this was confirmed by the Osmania General Hospital where he was referred on September 10.

The OU students urged the SHRC to order a probe into the matter and take action against the jail authorities. (INN)
