Owaisi brothers amassing huge Illegal wealth, Congress seeks probe

Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee (GHCC) Minorities Department Chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail on Friday accused Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) leaders of amassing huge illegal wealth by misappropriating funds of Darussalam Educational Trust.

In a media statement, Abdullah Sohail said that the Darussalam Educational Trust (DET) was formed in 1974 for the educational upliftment of Muslim community. However, he alleged that the MIM leaders have turned the Trust into a personal asset and reduced it to a dummy institution. He said that the Trust had established several educational institutions with the money contributed by the Muslim community. “Instead of imparting free education to poor Muslims through DET , the MIM leaders have misused it for personal gains. Presently, all the institutions being run by DET have turned into commercial establishments. Seats in Deccan Medical, Engineering and other institutions are being sold for a premium,” he alleged.

Abdullah Sohail also alleged that the MIM leaders have diverted crores of rupees, belonging to the DET, to their personal and benami accounts through Darulsalaam Cooperative Bank. He pointed out that the legal assets, declared by MIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi in his election affidavit, shows increase in assets by 10 times in just 10 years. While Asaduddin Owaisi had assets of Rs. 39 lakhs in 2004, he disclosed assets of Rs. 93 lakhs in 2009. They increased to Rs 4 crore in 2014. Similarly, Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi had declared assets of Rs. 8 crore in 2009 which increased by more than double in just five years. In 2014 elections, Akbaruddin Owaisi had declared assets of Rs. 17 crore. “How Owaisi brothers accumulated so much of wealth in such a short span of time?” he asked while alleging that most of the assets were accumulated from the money belongs to Darussalam Educational Trust.

The Congress leader informed that he had already made representations with the Reserve Bank of India seeking probe into the affairs of Darussalaam Bank. Further, he said authorities concerned would be approached seeking an independent and high-level probe into the disproportionate assets of Owaisi brothers. He also announced that the Congress party would approach the court, if required, seeking enquiry into the financial irregularities committed by the Owaisi brothers in Darussalam Educational Trust.
