Padma Awards 2016: Priyanka Chopra, Rajinikanth, Sania Mirza receive honored

New Delhi: Eminent personalities from sports and entertainment have been awarded Padma awards from President Pranab Mukherjee today.

Mr Mukherjee presented the Padma awards to Tamil superstar Rajnikanth, sportsperson Sania Mirza, South Indian film personality Ramoji Rao and Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra in Civil Investiture ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

The Bollywood singer Udit Narayan who has given more than 100 hit songs in his career has been given Padma Bhushan by the President for his contrubution to the film music industry.

Sania Mirza the Tennis Star has also been awarded with Padma Bhushan for her contribution in the world of tennis.

65-year-old Rajinikanth, one of the most celebrated actors of his generations with fans according him the status of a demi-god, has been conferred with Padma Vibhushan for his extra oridinary contribution to the cinema world. In 2000, the ‘ Thalaiva’.

Priyanka Chopra one of the prominent Indian names, who has made a distinct global presence has been awarded Padma Shri for taking Indian cinema and talent to another level. The ‘Quantico’ star has even bagged a Hollwood film, “Baywatch”, alongside Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.

The glittering ceremony was attended by Vice-president Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, BJP president Amit Shah , Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu, Minister for Communications and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of state for Home Kiren Rejiju, Power Minister Piyush Goyal, Congress leader Rajiv Shukla.
