Pak a dependable ally, says British PM May

Islamabad: Asserting that Pakistan is a dependable ally of the United Kingdom, newly-elected British Prime Minister Theresa May has said there will be no fallouts with Islamabad post-Brexit.

May made this remark during a telephonic conversation with her Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif yesterday.

She assured Sharif that both nations would work together in the post-Brexit era, adding there would be no adverse effects on bilateral relations after the move.

“Prime Minister Nawaz extended his warmest congratulations to the British Premier on her historic appointment as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom,” the Express Tribune quoted a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office as saying.

The statement added, “May’s appointment to the Prime Minister’s office reflects the faith and confidence the people of UK had reposed in her ability to steer the country at a historic time.”

Sharif on his part assured that Pakistan would work closely with the United Kingdom in all fields of bilateral cooperation.

Thanking Sharif for his kind words, the British Premier said Pakistan and the UK would work together as bilateral partners, adding that she was eagerly waiting for her planned visit to the country in the coming months. (ANI)
