Pak PM, Army Chief discuss military matters

Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held an important meeting with Army Chief General Raheel Sharif to discuss important issues related to the military.

The Prime Minister’s Office, however, described that the meeting, which was held yesterday focused on security matters.

“Matters related to external and internal security was discussed during the meeting,” Dawn quoted a statement as saying by the Prime Minister’s Office.

The only agenda item specified in the statement was review of progress of the ongoing military operation where it was noted with satisfaction that the operation has made significant gains, adding that participants reaffirmed their resolve to root out terrorism and extremism from the country.

The Chief of Army Staff had at the last Corps Commanders’ meeting held earlier this week said the elements of next phase of Zarb-i-Azb, include intensified intelligence-based operations across the country, timely resettlement of displaced persons and control of the border with Afghanistan.

Several senior officials, including Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry, were not present in the meeting. (ANI)
