Pak security team to visit India ahead of World T20

Islamabad : Pakistan on Saturday said it would send a security team to India next week to survey the ground situation before the visit of its cricket squad for the upcoming World T20 tournament.

The Pakistan cricket team will visit Kolkata, Dharamsala and Mohali for the first round of World Twenty20 starting on March 8.

“A three-member security team will depart for India on Monday to look into the security situation. Our team will be sent to India only if the initial report is positive, ” Dawn reported Pakistan’s Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan as saying at a conference here.

Islamabad has already voiced concerns about security in India, citing there were specific threats from Hindu right wings, who forced the cancellation of meeting between two cricket boards in Mumbai last year.

Amid diplomatic stalemate, both the South Asian neigbours have not played a bilateral series for more than three years now.

Following the terrorist attack at the Pathankot air base in January, the Foreign Secretary-level talks had been put on hold.

Pakistan’s team is scheduled to leave for India next week; however, Khan said the trip could be delayed if conditions on the ground are found to be unsatisfactory. (ANI)
