Palm Avenue triple murder: Man confesses to killing wife, twin sons

Kolkata: The prime accused in the Palm Avenue triple murder case, Neil Fonseca has “confessed” that he had killed his wife and twin sons in their bedroom on January 16, a senior Kolkata Police officer said on Tuesday.

“He has confessed murdering his wife Jessica and his twin sons Darren and Joshua on January 16 morning … He said that he was having an extra marital affair for the last couple of years and it had created a rift between him and his wife following which he decided to take this step,” the officer said.

Fonseca had also “confessed” that he had planned to get rid of his wife and had purchased 20 pound dumbbells for the purpose, the officer informed.

“In fact the couple were physically intimate on January 16 night when they fought over the extra marital issue … He then hit Jessica on her head with the dumbbell and then killed his twin sons in the same process. He then slit their throats to ensure that they are dead,” the officer said.

During interrogation, he also confessed that he had huge debt to repay to several people and that was acting as a “huge pressure” on him and affected his mental stability, the police officer said.

Fonseca, who had also tried to kill himself after the crime, said he had taken the “drastic step” due to an extra-marital relation that he had been having for the past two years, he said.

The man is undergoing treatment at a private medical facility in the city.

The couple had a confrontation about his affair on January 14 night, which happened to be their marriage anniversary, he said.

Fonseca then tried to slit his throat using a kitchen knife but failed in taking his life, he added.

Blood-soaked bodies of Jessica, Darren and Joshua were recovered from their third-floor apartment at Palm Avenue while Fonseca was found lying in a critical condition.
