Participation of Indian boxers in Rio Olympics at stake after AIBA warns India

New Delhi : The International Boxing Association (AIBA) has issued a final warning to India that they must hold an election by March 31 or else they would be terminated.

K Narsee, the head of the Ad hoc committee formed by the AIBA, said the organisation has written a final warning to India that they must hold election by March 31.

“If they fail to do so, they will be terminated. Currently, they are suspended and if this doesn’t happen they’ll be permanently terminated,” he added.

This means that the Indian Boxers, who will be participating in trials for Olympics 2016 will not be allowed to participate and hence the Indian contingent will go into Olympics minus their boxers.

Indian representative at the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Randhir Singh, too said the AIBA has said that the election should be held and the federation should be formed under their guidance.

The Ad hoc committee and DG SAI Injeti Srinivas and Randhir Singh had a meeting three days back to discuss this issue after getting the final warning. (ANI)
