On the directions of Cyberabad Police Commissioner, SOT East & West Zone Teams checked illegal godowns and vehicles transporting PDS rice and kerosene under Cyberabad Commissionerate limits and booked five cases during the last one month.
The police also arrested 24 accused, including Stage-II contractor, Ration shop dealers, owners of rice mills, paint shops and private agents. They also seized 455 quintal of PDS rice, 1000 litres of kerosene worth about Rs 11.5 lakh and cash of Rs 3,66,790, two lorries, one DCM and one Auto trolley. In this connection, cases were registered at Keesara, Balanagar, Medipally, Uppal and Shamshabad police stations.
Efforts were on to apprehend the remaining 34 absconding accused in these cases. The police are also maintaining surveillance on the previous offenders to prevent them from indulging in smuggling of PDS rice and kerosene. (NSS)
