People held ‘a beef party’ with Rajnath Singh’s visit to Mizoram

Aizwal: In states where beef is considered as a staple, People had come in protest with the beef ban. Several people showcased their anger by slaughtering cow publicly, on the other hand, hundreds of them had organised beef festivals in different states.

People in Mizoram had organised a beef party which coincided with the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit there on Monday. The minister said the Centre will not impose any restrictions on people’s choice of food, while his visit to Mizoram. Whereas Minister Venkaiya Naidu had given a similar statement saying that the centre will not impose any kind of ban on anyone’s choice of food, NDTV reports.

Rajnath Singh was in Mizoram in order to attend a meeting with the Chief Ministers of four northeastern states to review security along the India-Myanmar border. This response came when he was asked by media regarding the govt rule, which bans purchase and sale of cattle at animal markets for slaughter.

In the neighbouring state of Meghalaya, two senior BJP leaders quit the party in protest against the rule. On Monday, the Meghalaya Assembly passed a resolution against the rule. The opposition also voted in its favour.
