New Delhi: Backing Finance Minister Arun Jaitley who is facing allegations of corruptions during his tenure as the DDCA president, Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Sunday said that that political differences and prejudices should not have any place in a campaign like this.
“We completely reject the allegations leveled against him, it’s a life of great transparency for last more than 40 years in whatever assignments he has undertaken in his public life. We only feel that political differences and prejudices ought not to have any place in a campaign like this,” Prasad told ANI.
Launching a veiled attack at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has been on its toes in past few days over the alleged scam in Delhi cricket board, the Telecom Minister, said one was surprised to see that those who did their public life exposing corruption, were trying to shield corruption today.
“One is surprised about those, who did there public life of exposing corruption. Today, they are trying to shield corruption and trying to divert the attention when some kind of situation comes of the people working under them under a clout,” he added.
When asked to respond on the Delhi Government’s decision to form a commission of enquiry to probe scam in DDCA, Prasad said, it was beyond their jurisdiction to form such committee.
“As far as constitution of any commission of enquiry is concerned; obviously it is beyond their jurisdiction. We are proud of our leader Arun Jaitley and we believe that in this situation any personal prejudice ought not to play any role,” he added.
The Delhi Government has decided to constitute a commission of enquiry to probe the alleged corruption in the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA).
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has written a letter to senior advocate Gopal Subramaniam to head the commission.
Earlier, today Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Kirti Azad alleged that lots of companies were given crores of rupees by the DDCA and contracts were given out to fraud companies without any verification.
“Lots of companies were given crores of rupees by the DDCA and their nature of work was never told. Contracts were given out to fraud companies, payments were made, without any verification,” Azad told the press conference here at the press club to expose corruption in Delhi cricket body.
Finance Minister Jaitley, has been accused of corruption by the Delhi Government and former players including Kirti Azad and Bishan Singh Bedi during his tenure as president of DDCA till 2013.
The Aam Aadmi Party ( AAP) and the Congress Party has demanded for the resignation of the Finance Minister from the union cabinet to enable an independent probe against him.
