London, Nov. 12 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived here on Thursday on a three-day bilateral visit to the United Kingdom.
He was received at the Heathrow Airport by the Indian High Commissioner to UK Rajan Mathai, UK’s High Commissioner to India James Bevan along with several senior officials of the British Government and the military attache of the Indian High Commission.
This is Prime Minister Modi’s first visit to Britain since assuming office last year and is also the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the UK in almost a decade.
A tight security blanket has been thrown around the areas where Prime Minister is expected to visit.
Prime Minister Modi will be given a Guard of Honour at Treasury Quadrangle, Kings Charles Street before being officially welcomed by his Britain counterpart David Cameron.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit will also include an address to the British Parliament, despite the fact the Parliament is not in session. He will also visit the Jaguar Land Rover factory in Solihull.
Writing on Facebook ahead of the trip, the Prime Minister Modi said the aim is “strengthening cooperation with a traditional friend”.
The visit will also build on the “strong ties” between the two countries on the issues of defence and security.”I am confident my UK visit will deepen our ties and we will cooperate extensively in a range of areas of shared interests,” Prime Minister Modi wrote.
He is also set to address members of Britain’s Indian community at Wembley Stadium on November 13. A roundtable discussion with business chiefs in London is also scheduled.
The Prime Minister Modi is due to travel to Turkey for the G20 Summit on November 14 and will return home on November 17. (ANI)
