Ashgabat, (Turkmenistan) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a bust of Mahatma Gandhi in Ashgabat on Saturday.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated a traditional medicine and yoga centre and visited the mausoleum of the first president of Turkmenistan, Saparmur, at Niyazov .
Prime Minister Modi, who issued a joint statement with Turkmenistan earlier today, proposed that Turkmenistan becomes a member of the International North South Transport Corridor.
The Prime Minister, who arrived here yesterday on the fourth leg of his Central Asian tour, was earlier in the day accorded a ceremonial welcome by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at the Oguzkhan Palace in Ashgabat.
This is the first visit to Turkmenistan by an Indian Prime Minister after PV Narasimha Rao’s visit in 1995. (ANI)
