New Delhi:Police on Wednesday filed the first chargesheet against Asaram’s close aide Niraj Kumar in connection with the murder of a prime witness in a rape case against the self-styled godman.
The chargesheet was filed under IPC section 302 against Kumar in the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, which has ordered that he be produced in on November 16 in the murder case of Akhil Gupta, senior prosecutor D C Shrivastava said.
During interrogation the accused has confessed that he had provided arms and other goods to Kartik Haldar, the henchman of the self-styled godman, who had allegedly gunned down Gupta.
Haldar was arrested from Raipur in Chhattisgarh in March by the Gujarat Special Task Force (STF) and is lodged in Ahmedabad jail.
Kumar was held in Saharanpur district and was booked on charges of cheating and misleading police, besides under Arms Act.
Gupta, the prime witness in Asaram’s rape case, was shot dead here on January 11, 2015. Police are trying to bring Haldar, who had revealed Kumar’s connection in the murder, to Muzaffarnagar from Gujarat jail.
Gupta was a cook and personal aide of Asaram, who has been in jail since August 2013, for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old schoolgirl.
