Police rescue teenage girl who was sold, married off

New Delhi: A 16-year-old girl, who was sold off and married to a boy in Noida, has been rescued and four persons, including a woman, arrested in this connection, police said today.

The girl’s mother, who recently divorced her husband and had married another man from Jaipur, left her at the residence of the woman whom she referred to as her maternal aunt, before leaving for the Rajasthan’s capital on September 4, they said.

Few days after returning from Jaipur, she complained to police that the woman, alongwith her associates, sold her daughter to some unidentified persons in Noida.

A case was registered under relevant sections of IPC at Nand Nagri police station and investigation was initiated.

Police raided several places after investigation and the girl was rescued from Noida, they said.

The girl told police that she was taken for a walk on Janmashtami by the accused woman who was accompanied by another man to Char Khambha in Nand Nagri where three other boys were present.

“The boys took her to Noida where her marriage was solemnised with a boy. She was allegedly raped by the boy who claimed that he had bought her by paying Rs one lakh to the accused,” a police officer said.

Medical examination of the victim has been done and she was counseled by an NGO. Her statement was recorded under section 164 CrPC after which other sections were added to the case registered earlier.

The accused woman, the boy who allegedly raped the girl, and two associates of the woman have been arrested. Further efforts are being made to arrest two other accused in the case, the officer added.
