Policeman dies in blast at Eid prayer congregation

Dhaka: One policeman died and around nine people have been severely injured in a bomb explosion today during the Eid prayer congregation in Kishoreganj, said Bangladesh Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu.

Around three lakh people had gathered to offer Eid prayers at the congregation when the attack took place.

The explosion comes days after the terror attack in a Dhaka cafe that killed 22 people including foreigners. The attack drew worldwide condemnation.

The cafe attack was carried out by around six armed assailants who took more than 30 hostages inside the Holey Artisan bakery and the 12-hour-long hostage situation could only be ended after a two-hour long assault by armed forces’ killing five gunmen and capturing one alive.

Nine Italians, seven Japanese, one Indian, one Bangladeshi American and two Bangladeshis were killed in the terror attack. (ANI)
