Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) : After releasing the Vision Document of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for Kerala assembly elections, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, on Saturday, said the BJP-led alliance has emerged as a prominent alternative in the southern state, while asserting that the electoral contest in the state has shifted from being ‘ bi-polar’ to tri-polar’.

Asserting that the economic policies followed by the Congress-led UDF and the Left-led LDF were more or less similar, Jaitley slammed both the fronts for adopting a flawed ‘economic model’, which did not let Kerala prosper despite advantages.

“Historically Kerala should have been the most prosperous state in the country, but despite all advantages this did not happen. This did not happen because of two reasons, economic model created by the Left, which was not a developmental model,” he said at a gathering of party workers after releasing the vision document.

“The alternative model did not exist. The Congress or the UDF broadly followed the same line. There is a lot of debate both nationally and in the state as to whether days of bipolar politics in Kerala are over, they indeed are. The NDA has to give an alternative politics to the state of Kerala. This is really Kerala’s first tripolar election,” he added.

The NDA, which has completed two phases of campaigning, is going to field prominent national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah, for the last leg of electioneering.

Prime Minister Modi would address five rallies from May 6 to May 11, while Amit Shah would address five rallies starting from May 1.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh would campaign in the state on May 6 and 7, Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu on May 8 and 9 and Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani on May 8. (ANI)
