Polling holiday today for citizens: CS

Hyderabad: To make it convenient for citizens to exercise their franchise in the GHMC elections in a hassle-free manner, the State Government declared February 2 as a paid holiday.

The State government has taken a decision to this effect and asked the officials concerned to strictly implement the holiday under the limits of the GHMC. The Government issued orders under Negotiable Instruments Act to shut banks, schools, educational institutions, government offices, banks, private establishments and business organizations on Tuesday.

This would increase the voting percentage in the civic polls. Similarly, the IT organisations in the city also declared half-a-day holiday. Chief Secretary Dr Rajiv Sharma directed the district Collectors concerned to see that the holiday is strictly implemented in three districts of Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medak which are under GHMC limits.
