Ponguleti wants new district to be named after Bapuji

Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy demanded that the State Government name a new district after freedom fighter late Konda Lakshman Bapuji.

Speaking to media persons here, Ponguleti said that the State Government was proposing to split Adilabad into two districts. He said that the new district should be named after Bapuji in recognition of his contribution during Telangana movement. He also demanded that the process to introduce a postal stamp in Bapuji’s name should be hastened. He said a memorial for Bapuji should also be constructed in Hyderabad. He welcomed the State Government’s decision to officially celebrate Bapuji’s Jayanthi.

With regard to monsoon session of Legislative Council, Ponguleti said that the Congress would strongly contend the case for farmers who committed suicide in Telangana State. He alleged that the TRS Government was trying to divert the attention by using figures of suicide from 2004 to 2014. He said ideally, the debate should revolve around suicides committed after formation of Telangana on June 2, 2014. (INN)
