Expressing concern over keeping the irrigation projects in pending by dragging them in dispute, Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy has said then UPA government at the Centre carved out separate Telangana State unmindful of unpleasant consequences. He declared that he would wage a relentless war in the Legislative Council against the TRS government for development of Telangana State.
Speaking to the media at CLP Office here on Friday, Ponguleti reminded that though the Chief Minister had assured in the Council that an all-party committee would be set up to discuss the Telangana projects, nothing has happened till date. He said the Chief Minister wanted to change the design of the Pranahitha-Chevella project without disclosing reasons for changing the design. The Chief Minister assured that he would take the all-party leaders to Delhi to discuss the present design of Polavaram project, which will affect Khammam district, but nothing has happened.
Ponguleti also alleged that the TRS government has taken up three new projects, including Dummugudem-Bayyaram project keeping aside the pending projects — Rajiv Sagar and Indira Sagar projects. He demanded that the Chief Minister call a meeting with Khammam leaders to review on Dummugudem projects and Polavaram and new projects. He also alleged that the government was taking up new projects instead of completing old ones in Mahbubnagar. “About 8 lakh acre will be irrigated if the government allocated Rs 1,000 crore to the pending Mahbubnagar projects”, he said.
Demanding that the government act transparently regarding Water Grid Scheme tenders, Ponguleti expressed doubts on the efforts of the government to deny the tenders of Water Grid Scheme’s 17 packages worth Rs.15,000 crore to the Telangana contractors. He also alleged that the State government was hatching a conspiracy to delay the construction of projects by raising disputes on the projects.
Sudhakar Reddy has warned the TDP leaders that Congress men would not keep quiet if they criticize AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who was in Andhra Pradesh tour. He said the TDP has no right to criticize Rahul Gandhi, who was paying door-to-door visit to apprise himself of the problems of farmers. He also ridiculed Chandrababu Naidu saying that drought dawns wherever he sets his foot. He said Andhra Pradesh State was facing drought conditions due to Chandrababu Naidu and made it clear that a fitting lesson will be taught to the leaders who criticized Rahul Gandhi. (NSS)
