New Delhi: Communist Party of India (CPI) national secretary D. Raja on Monday lashed out at the central government for imposing president’s rule in Uttarakhand on grounds of a ‘breakdown of governance’, and alleged that it is a threat to constitutionally practices and a blow to democracy.
“Bad days have come for our democracy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi Modi has been promising ‘Acche Din’ (Good Days), but instead of ‘Acche Din’, bad days have come. It is a threat to constitutional practices, for parliamentary practices. It is a blow to democracy,” Raja told ANI here.
The CPI leader also said that the imposition of president’s rule clearly shows that the Centre doesn’t want a non-BJP government to function in Uttarakhand.
“What the central government has done by imposition of President’s rule in Uttarakhand is not correct, it is a very wrong thing because in a elected government as majority or minority it has to be tested on the floor of the house. When there is a deadline, why the Central Government has to show so much of haste? It is nothing but destabilization of the non- BJP government in a state like Uttarakhand,” he added.
“This is what they call it ‘Congress-free’ India. It is not only ‘congress free’ government but ‘opposition free’ India. This is the attitude of the central government and the BJP,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Congress party is all set to challenge the imposition of President’s rule in the court.
Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal said the party would approach the court, and accused the BJP of hatching a conspiracy against Congress-ruled states.
After almost seven days of verbal battle between the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the political crisis in Uttarakhand, President’s rule was imposed in the hill state on Sunday.
The Uttarakhand Assembly has been kept in suspended animation following President’s rule in the state.
The recommendation for central rule was made by the Union Cabinet at its emergency meeting last night, which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Congress had dubbed the cabinet meeting as the last phase of the drama scripted by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). (ANI)
