Propose to strip speaker powers: Jagan asks EC

Launching a scathing attack on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu for violating constitutional norms by encouraging defections, YSR Congress Chief and Opposition Leader, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy today urged Election Commission of India to strip Assembly Speaker of his discretionary powers to disqualify legislators defected to ruling party and take the  serious measures against such defectors.

Jagan mohan Reddy who called on CEO, Naddem Zaidi in national capital on Thursday had urged steps against defections and sought steps to taking back powers from the speaker.

Later, talking to media persons, he said that he brought to the notice of the EC about the Naidu’s misdeeds, corruption and spending crores to buy the MLAs from his party. I urged the EC to propose to the Centre for constitutional amendments to repeal the powers from the speaker and prevent Democracy from being sold, he said.

Now I exposed Naidu’s corruption and his act of violating constitutional norms at national level and will fight in the court for speedy justice , he remarked.

Jagan Reddy’s approach to the EC assumes significance at a time when his party legislators making a beeline to the ruling TD in the state.

Jagan Reddy also sought that the EC should conduct elections at same time both in Hyderabad and in Andhra Pradesh to avoid surplus voting and duplication. Since elections conducted for two states on different dates are leading to duplication and replication the EC should take initiative to conduct them on same dates including in Hyderabad (GHMC purview) he urged the EC.

He said that he apprised to the EC about the AP affairs of corruption and luring leaders to defect in to the ruling party. The YCP chief also urged the apex body of elections to deny permission to any political party to contest next elections if it failed to implement at least 10 promises made in its manifesto. He also criticized that Naidu for miserably failing to keep his promises. Chandrababu dumped people of their problems did not offer jobs and failed to waive crop loans and loans to dwcra women. He called upon the YCP leaders and activists to raise their voice heard for people and try to bring change in system and win hearts of people for justice.

Through “save democracy” fight we could brought to the notice of the nation about the corrupt AP Government, Jagan Reddy said and hoped that justice may be delayed , but will not be denied.

He alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi denied him an appointment on the same issue perhaps TD being ally of the BJP at national level. However, the YCP will send the same details through the post to the prime minister, he maintained.(NSS)
