Protesters, security forces clash in Srinagar

Srinagar: Clashes broke out on Saturday between the security forces and protesters in Srinagar when a protest march led by Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik was taken out.

The protesters were marching towards city centre Lal Chowk from the adjacent Maisuma area.

Police intercepted the march on the main road who “resorted to heavy stone pelting at the security forces”, an official said.

The security forces used batons and tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters but the youth kept on regrouping in the lanes and by-lanes of the densely populated uptown Maisuma.

Sporadic clashes were on in the area as markets immediately closed.
