The First Day of Public Hearing on Enhancement of Reservations of Social and Educationally Backward Communities among Muslims in Educational Institutions and Employment, conducted by Telangana State BC Commission continued till 5 pm on Wednesday.
Representatives from Muslim Minority Community, BC Caste Organizations attended and expressed their views and gave suggestions in this regard. B.S. Ramulu, Chaiman, Dr. Vakulabharanam Krishna Mohan Rao, Dr. Anjaneya Goud, Juluru Gowri Shankar, Members and G.D. Aruna, IAS member-secretary, BC Commission, were present.
Inaugurating the program, B.S. Ramulu, said the public hearing will continue for four days till December 17. The enhancement of Reservations for Muslims does not mean a decrease in BC reservation quota. As the Telangana Government has forwarded the Sudhir Commission Report for the examination of BC Commission, the latter had decided to study the report and make appropriate recommendations on it. So, the Commission has decided to conduct public hearing to collect opinions or feedback from individuals and organizations. The Commission would consult eminent social thinkers, Law Experts and University Professors to gather more information on this issue, B.S. Ramulu said. On the first day of public hearing, representatives from 12 organizations have placed their views before the Commission.
As the Sudhir Commission Report recommended 12% reservations for Muslim BCs, the Telangana State BC Commission’s cooperation and support in forwarding it to the Government was sought from the Muslim Community. Mohd. Iftekharuddin, Advocate, representing Muslim Reservations Front Telangana State said the earlier committees, commissions like Sacher Committee, Amitab Kund Committee, Justice Dalwa Subramanayam Commission concluded that many Muslims are socially, educationally backward. Mohd. Iftekharuddin has urged the BC Commission to tour all districts in the State to know stark realities about the poor living conditions of BCs among Muslims.
Among those who argued in support of reservations for BCs among Muslims were TNGO leader Syed Majeed ullah Hussaini, Khaja Kayyum Anwar. The Muslim Minority leaders Syed Musu, Mohd Irfan Mohiuddin, Khaja Imamuddin and Mohd Shahabaz came from Karimnagar and submitted their public hearing formats duly filling up verification affidavits.
The public hearing will continue on December 15, 16, 17 in the conference hall of BC Commission Office from 11 am to 5 pm. Individuals / organizations can send their opinions or representations in writing or online or by post so as to reach by December 19 at 5 pm. (NSS)
