Puducherry Chief Minister Launches Rs. 6.9 Crore ‘Free Garment Scheme’ for Scheduled Caste Families

PUDUCHERRY: Distribution of garments free of cost for 54,000 Scheduled Caste families under a scheme of Department of Adi Dravidar Welfare was launched today by Chief Minister N Rangasamy in view of Diwali.

A department release said government had incurred an expenditure of Rs. 6.9 crore to procure the garments and distribute them to the beneficiaries.

As many as 1,01,300 men and 1,08,200 women are covered under the scheme.

The department launched the scheme in Thelarshpet village.

Garments would be distributed simultaneously from tomorrow in other segments, the release said. Ministers and legislators were among those present at the venue.
