Rahul arrives, leaves for Sangareddy to sound poll bugle

AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi landed at Begumpet Airport by a special aircraft from New Delhi this afternoon. A large number of Congress leaders, including TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy, and thousands of party workers accorded him a tumultuous welcome.

Immediately after arrival, Rahul Gandhi motored down to Somajiguda Circle and garlanded the statue of his father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Rahul came here to address a public meeting in Sangareddy. Later, Rahul Gandhi left for Sangareddy in a huge rally. The police gave up as they could not control the over-enthusiastic Congress activists.

It may be mentioned here that assassinated Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had addressed a huge public meeting at Sangareddy in 1978 and returned to power in the 1980 general elections. Therefore, the Congress think tank has selected Sangareddy for the AICC vice-president’s poll bugle hoping that the people in Telangana State would recognize the fact that Congress president Sonia Gandhi had conceded separate Telangana State setting aside a number of hurdles. But the Congress party bit the dust in the 2014 elections. Now, the Congress men strongly hope that the people of Telangana would favour the party with a sentiment. (NSS)
