Rahul Gandhi assures justice to thrashed Dalit victims’ kin in Una

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi met the family members of the Dalit men on Thursday, who were thrashed for allegedly killing a cow earlier this month.

“In Mota Samadhiyala, Una to meet the family members of the Dalit youths who were so brutally assaulted,” he tweeted.

The Congress vice-president also informed that Balu Bhai, the father of the Dalit youths, was also beaten up mercilessly during the incident.
After the meeting, the victim demanded justice and strict action against the accused.

“We told Rahul ji everything, how we were all beaten up. He said they will do everything to get us justice,” said one of the victims.

“Why should we leave this village? The people, who have hurt us should leave,” he added.

The Congress vice-president will also be meeting the Dalit victims admitted in a hospital in Rajkot at 2:30 pm

Some persons claiming to be ‘gau rakshak’ (cow protectors) thrashed seven Dalit men in Una last week alleging that they had killed a cow which they were skinning. The victims claimed that they were skinning the cow which had died of natural causes.

Video of the incident went viral, sparking protests. A policeman was killed in mob violence and a Dalit committed suicide as protests against last week’s incident escalated.
